The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Macon recorded an unemployment rate of 3.6% in April, down six-tenths over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.7%.

“This April, unemployment rates dropped across every region of Georgia,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “When we connect Georgians with meaningful work, we’re putting food on tables, creating stability for individuals and families, and building an economy where our children can see their future—right here at home. This is how we grow a stronger Georgia—one job, one family, one community at a time.”

The labor force in Macon decreased by 499 over the month and decreased by 226 over the year, totaling 96,600.

Macon finished the month with 93,109 employed residents, up 134 from the previous month and down 176 from the same time last year.

Macon ended April with 99,900 jobs, up 200 from the previous month and up 100 from the same time last year.

In April, initial unemployment claims in Macon increased by 38 from the previous month and were down by 20 from the same month last year, totaling 426.
