Tax Credits Available for Georgia Residents Through Georgia HEART Hospital Program
Tax Credits Available for Georgia Residents Through Georgia HEART Hospital Program Georgia residents can earn tax credits for contributing to participating rural hospitals
If you’re like most Americans, you’re breathing a sigh of relief that tax season is over for 2025. But what if there were a way for you to have some say in how your hard-earned tax dollars are spent?
Suppose you pay income taxes to the state of Georgia. In that case, you can direct your state income tax payment to benefit rural hospitals, including Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin and Atrium Health Navicent Peach, through the Georgia HEART (Help Enhance Access to Rural Treatment) Hospital Program.
For many years, due to demographic, economic, and health care industry challenges, Georgia’s rural hospitals have been facing a financial crisis that has jeopardized rural Georgians’ access to adequate health care. At a time when many rural hospitals are closing, this program allows eligible Georgia hospitals to increase their funding and their ability to provide for the health care needs in their communities.
Through the program, Georgia taxpayers can receive a state income tax credit for 100% of the amount they contribute to qualified rural hospitals.
“Hospitals like ours provide essential services to residents of rural communities, and we’re grateful to Georgia HEART donors who help our patients receive the best care, no matter where they live,” said Atrium Health Navicent Peach CEO Laura Gentry.
In 2024, Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin purchased cardiac monitors, obtained Glidescopes to ensure proper endotracheal tube placement, and upgraded the hospital’s sleep lab using state taxpayer funds contributed through Georgia HEART. Atrium Health Navicent Peach purchased updated medication dispensing machines, which help ensure accuracy and that patients receive the medicine they need more efficiently.
“It’s not often that you get the opportunity to designate how your tax money is spent, but with this program, you can keep those dollars close to home by supporting your local rural hospitals,” said Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin Chief Operating Officer Thomas Goss.
Of the $100 million in tax credits available for the program at the beginning of 2025, approximately $78 million remains to be claimed.
